WinRAR 6.00 Final released

The final version of WinRAR 6.00 has been released!

Berlin, December 9th, 2020: win.rar GmbH and RARLAB.COM are proud to present the final release of WinRAR 6.00. 25 years after its first release, we are proud to offer our users today one of the most advanced and efficient compression and archiving software on the market. This new release offers several improvements in usability, especially in the handling of extracting multiple archives simultaneously and working with several archives at the same time.

The highlights of the new version are:

New options to the read error prompt have been added, which can save many hours of archiving if small locked files are encountered during a large backup procedure. "Ignore" allows to continue processing, with already read file parts only, and "Ignore All" does the same for all future read errors. For example, if the user archives a file which is partly locked by another process, and if "Ignore" is selected in read error prompt, it will save only a part of the file preceding the unreadable region into the archive. It can help to avoid interrupting lengthy archiving operations, but the user should know that files archived with "Ignore" are incomplete. The previously available "Retry" and "Quit" options are still present in read error prompt.

WinRAR issues a warning when closing if one or more archived files have been modified by external apps but WinRAR failed to save the files back to the archive because an external app still locks them. This warning includes the list of modified files and proposes to quit immediately and lose changes or to return to WinRAR and to close an editor app. Previous versions issued a similar warning while editing a file but did not remind users again when closing WinRAR.

If several archives need to be extracted simultaneously, the user can now use the "Extract archives to" option group in the "Options" tab of the extraction dialog to store extracted files in a specified destination folder, to separate subfolders in a destination folder, to separate subfolders in archive folders, or to archive folders directly. It replaces the "Extract archives to subfolders" option and is only available if multiple archives are selected. This feature improves usability when working with multiple archives.

When unpacking part of a file from a solid volume set, WinRAR attempts to skip volumes in the beginning and will start the extraction from the volume closest to the specified file. By default, WinRAR resets the solid statistics in the beginning of large enough solid volumes when possible. For such volumes, extracting a part of the files from the middle of the volume set can be faster now but does not affect performance when all archived files are unpacked.

As usual, bugs which occurred during the usage of previous WinRAR versions have been fixed to provide all users with a stable and bug-free version.
