What is Encryption?
To make it simple, let's use the post-box example. Janine has a secret message that she wants to share with Pierre. She puts her message in the post-box and locks it with her key. Pierre comes along and opens the box with his key and reads Janine's message. The process of locking the message in the box is called Encryption, and the process of unlocking the box is called Decryption. When we're taking about encrypting messages on our computers or devices, the key used to "unlock" our messages is known as a Cipher.
Ciphers are codes that can scramble or unscramble text.
There are many different types of encryption, but WinRAR uses AES 256-bit encryption technology. The standard used by Military, Government and Financial institutions all over the world.
